New mixer model announced at OMG's 60th birthday party

14th December, Ponte Valleceppi, Italy.  Mr. Paulo Galletti, President and CEO of OMG, Sicoma's manufacturing arm, celebrated the company's 60th birthday with a large gathering of guests.  Present were representatives from all offices:  Italy, France, Spain, North America and China as well as Sicoma's Turkish OEM who recently ordered 40 mixers.  On display was the body of the new MAO 12000 mixer, a twin shaft model with 10.5 cu. yd / 8 cu. m. output and capable of almost 500 yds per hour fully compacted output at peak production.  This mixer was designed for the North American ready-mix and world wide dam market.  It will be completed by March 2008 and a line-up of potential users are waiting for full production.  It will be available in two versions:  Double Discharge Doors for single or two truck ready-mix production, and Bomb-Bay Discharge Door for dams and RCC.

Sicoma announces new gearboxes, shaft seals and alarm unit for twin shaft mixers

At this year's Bauma show, Munich, Germany, Sicoma displayed a major innovation in twin shaft mixers.  For the first time, the complete drive assembly has been mounted on hinges, allowing each drive to be swung out and away from the bearings and shaft seals, making maintenance much faster and easier than in any other mixer.  A small slow drive motor has also been fitted to allow inching of the blades during hand washing or service.  In addition, Sicoma's legendary triple shaft seals, already the world's most reliable, have been superseded by a new totally greaseless and maintenance free design.  These three innovations are the subject of several patents and, if this was not enough, the company has introduced an advanced alarm and diagnostic unit that monitors all important parameters as well as warning when maintenance is due and logging all alarms for later download to a computer.

These new developments are presently under test and will be released in North America in the summer of 2008.  Watch for further announcements.

Successful plant rebuild at Hanson New Orleans

Hanson's New Orleans pipe plant needed a refit and Plant Outfitters Inc. were chosen to do the job.  This was a tough assignment because the plant could only be down for a couple of weeks and the complete mixing system, with three distribution conveyors to separate casting machines, had to be replaced.  Plant Outfitters' crew of Navajo steel riggers came through on time, replacing all scale hoppers, mixers, discharge chutes, conveyors, cement screws, water system, dust collectors and controls. Two Sicoma twin shaft mixers were chosen  with their associated high pressure washout systems, along with Scale-Tron's Batchtron III controller, remote demand stations and associated motor controls.

Sicoma announces Double and Reduced Discharge Doors for twin shaft mixers

The Double Discharge Door option allows separate discharge to either of two outlets;  something that was not possible with twin-shaft mixers until now.  This is an important advancement for this type of mixer, easing its application in many precast applications having two or more delivery locations.

The Reduced Discharge Door reduces the full width discharge to approximately 1/3 of the normal opening, allowing the mixer to be used in spaces were it was impossible before.  Both options include a chute and chute washout system; they allow the mixer to be placed 1000 mm (40") lower, saving the cost of new structure and associated conveyors in many cases.  Discharge time, although longer than for the unrestricted opening, is no longer than the partial opening required to fill most mixer trucks and chutes, due to Sicoma's spiral mixing action.
